Information on children and young people's health history and present health condition is sought prior to and during admission. The attending nurse and local GP undertake a medical examination and access previous health records from the child / young person's most recent GP. The Care Planning Process seeks also to gain information on the health of children and young people.
A medical room is provided on site administered by a visiting nurse and local GP. A dentist visits on a monthly basis and also attends to emergencies. All young people have access to other health resources through GP referral. A local accident and emergency department is located at a nearby hospital where children and young people will be escorted when necessary.
All children and young people receive the required immunisations identified through the admission medical and Care Planning process.
The admission medical and process will also identify key health issues that require an immediate response i.e. risk of self-harm and or referral to a Specialist Support Service i.e. substance misuse service.
