What is the DofE all about?
Hillside Secure Centre’s Duke of Edinburgh programme is a real
adventure from beginning to end. It doesn’t matter who you are or
where you are from. The Centre has been facilitating the scheme for
the last seven years. Young people have the opportunity to try
something fun and new whilst working towards a nationally
The course provides the young people with the opportunity to
develop their self-esteem, confidence, team building and
communication skills. These are a few of the key skills that young
develop and build upon whilst at the Centre.
The Duke Of Edinburgh Scheme allows young people the chance to
prove that they can achieve and prove to themselves that they can
overcome and believe in themselves. Hillside provides lists of

Through their engagement with the staff and instructors of the
course they are able to access the Bronze Award. There are three
Awards available to the young people which they can explore when
they leave the Centre.
You can do programmes at three levels, which when completed,
lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
Hillside due to its unique environment facilitates the Bronze award
for the young people.
You achieve your Award by completing a personal programme of
activities in four sections (five if you're going for Gold) -
Volunteering, Physical, Skills, Expedition and for Gold, a
You'll find yourself helping people or the community, getting
fitter, developing skills, going on an expedition and taking part
in a residential activity (Gold only). The best bit is - you get to
choose what you do!
Your programme can be full of activities and projects that get
you buzzing, and along the way you’ll pick up experiences, friends
and talents that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
